Why a Licence Key May Not Activate

Review the most common reasons a licence activation request may fail.

Why a Licence Key May Not Activate

If a licence key does not activate, GoshLinks shows the message returned by the licence service.

Common Reasons

  • The key is incorrect - The licence key was mistyped or copied incorrectly.
  • The key does not exist - The licence service cannot find that key.
  • The licence is inactive - The licence is not currently active.
  • The site limit has been reached - The licence has no available site activations left.
  • The site is linked to another licence - The current site may already be authorised under a different licence.
  • The licence service cannot be reached - The site cannot connect to the licence API.

What To Check First

  1. Copy the key again from your GoshLinks account.
  2. Paste it into the Licence tab.
  3. Make sure there are no extra spaces before or after the key.
  4. Try activating again.

Check Site Usage

The Licence tab shows site usage. If your plan has reached its site limit, remove an old site from your account or upgrade the licence.

Connection Issues

If the site cannot reach the licence service, activation may fail with a connection or timeout message.

Ask your host whether outgoing HTTPS requests from WordPress are allowed.

If Replacing a Key Fails

The current saved key is kept. GoshLinks does not replace a saved key with a failed replacement.
