Activating and Deactivating Links

Learn how link status works and what happens when a short link is deactivated.

Activating and Deactivating Links

Each GoshLinks link has a Status. The status controls whether the link is active or inactive.

Active Links

When a link is active, visitors are sent to the Target URL unless Pro scheduling or expiry rules say otherwise.

Deactivated Links

When a link is deactivated, visitors are not sent to the Target URL.

Instead, visitors are sent to:

  1. The link's Pro Deactivated URL, if one is set.
  2. Otherwise, the global Default Deactivated Redirect Page in Settings > Default Pages.
  3. If that setting is empty, the site home page.

How To Activate or Deactivate a Link

From the All Links Page

Use the Status switch in the link row to turn a link on or off.

From the Link Editor

Open the link editor and use the Status checkbox. Save the link after changing it.

Using Bulk Editing (Pro)

Pro users can select multiple links on the Bulk Editing page and use the Activate or Disable buttons.

Important Pro Scheduling Note

For Pro links, Status works together with Start Date and Expiry Date.

  • If a link has a future Start Date, it will not send visitors to the Target URL until that date.
  • If a link has expired and the Expiry Action is Deactivate Link, it will stop sending visitors to the Target URL.
  • If you manually deactivate a scheduled link, it stays off until you activate it again.
