Best Practices Before Running an Import
Imports can add, overwrite, or replace data. Taking a few minutes to prepare can prevent mistakes.
1. Run an Export First
Before importing, go to GoshLinks > Settings > Export and download a backup of your current data.
This is especially important if you plan to delete existing links or overwrite matching slugs.
2. Check the Import File
Make sure the file is a GoshLinks-compatible JSON file.
The file should come from:
- A GoshLinks export.
- The GoshLinks YOURLS exporter plugin.
3. Review the File Summary
After upload, GoshLinks shows the available import sections and counts. Review them before starting.
4. Choose the Safest Link Import Mode
If you are unsure, choose Keep existing links, only import new unique links.
This avoids deleting or overwriting existing links.
5. Decide Whether You Need Click Data
Click data can be large. Import it when you need historical stats. Skip it when you only need the links.
6. Avoid Interrupting Large Imports
Large imports may run in batches. Keep the browser tab open until the import completes or until you intentionally abort it.
7. Review After Import
After import, check:
- All Links for imported links.
- Stats if click data was imported.
- Settings if settings were imported.
- Help Notes if help notes were imported.
